Take a look at this chart.  At first glance it may look like a smokin’ hot 400% gainer from Quazimoto’s watchlist.  A closer look reveals a monthly hurricane frequency chart.  Knowing when a hurricane strikes is of the utmost importance to those in areas where these wonders of nature do their damage.  To a trader, loading up on a few key companies that aid in the recovery effort is a profitable play that cannot be ignored. hurricane frequency

Some feel that there is something wrong with profiting from the misfortune of others.  From my point of view, if my house is sliding into the ocean and my  insurance company is reluctant to pay for damages, a little extra pocket change doesn’t hurt.  If your conscience gets to you because you secretly wish for a massive hurricane to make landfall, please give a portion of your proceeds to those in need.  There are many that could use the help even several years after these catastrophes occur.  Click here if you would like to help those who have been victims of these types of disasters.

The main factors considered for chosing the best stocks were the previous, speculative nature associated with each stock and the subsequent positive price action. In addition, decent volume levels were a key component when selecting tradeable stocks.

That being said, here is a list of my six favorite “hurricane stocks” for 2008:

Home Solutions of America; Stock Symbol: HSOA
Beacon Power Corp; Stock Symbol: BCON
National Storm Management; Stock Symbol: NSMG
Chdt Corp;  Stock Symbol: CHDO
Worldwater and Solar Technologies Corp; Stock Symbol: WWAT
Ecoloclean Industries, Inc.; Stock Symbol: ECCI

So remember, in addition to extra batteries, blankets, a full tank of gas, and of course, duct tape, your hurricane preparedness list should also include a portfolio of “primed and ready” disaster relief companies.
